The European Gas Research Group (GERG), through its Carbon Capture and Storage section, hosted a dedicated expert meeting focused on emerging technologies for decarbonizing the gas sector. GERG is widely recognized as Europe’s leading collaborative platform for gas research, uniting major energy companies and infrastructure operators to drive innovation and support the transition toward a low-carbon energy system.

As part of this closed meeting for GERG members, researchers from ICB-CSIC were invited to share their expertise. Francisco García Labiano (MegaBioFuel project) and María Teresa Izquierdo (Bioflex-CLC project) delivered a 20-minute presentation titled:
“Advances, Applications and Opportunities of Chemical Looping Technologies for Carbon Capture.”
Their presentation provided an overview of the latest developments in chemical looping technologies, with a particular focus on their application for efficient carbon capture. In addition, the speakers introduced the objectives and progress of the EU-funded projects BioFlex-CLC and Bio-MeGaFuel, highlighting their contribution to innovative and sustainable energy solutions.
The session concluded with a 15-minute discussion, where participants exchanged insights on industrial implementation, technical challenges, and future research directions.
