Växjö Energi is a Swedish energy and communications company owned by the Municipality of Växjö. Today Växjö Energi produces 100% renewable district heating, cooling and electricity from forestry residues sourced from tens of thousands of local family forestry´s and local wood industries. We also own and operate wind power and solar power plants. In the region we operate four district heating nets, one district cooling net and one power grid and also a regional broadband net.
Since the start in 1887, we at Växjö Energi have worked closely with everyone who lives and works in the city. Although much has changed since then, our mission remains the same. We are completely focused on making everyday life better for our customers – in the most resource-efficient way possible and without worrying about the future. Since the 1980’s much of our efforts have been focused on transitioning from fossil to renewable energy and in 2019 we achieved our goal of a fossil-free operation and since then all our district heating, district cooling and electricity are produced from renewable biofuel from the forest. Fossil-free operations do not only include fossil-free production in all production facilities but also includes the whole of our own operations in the form that, for example, our own vehicle fleet is fossil fuel-free, which applies to everything from service trucks and loaders right down to the leaf blower. Växjö Energi have however not stopped there but are continuously looking at new opportunities to contribute to the green transition, this includes a project for BECCS-implementation and different services to support the electric grid stability.
Role in Bio-FlexCLC:
Växjö Energi, in its role as operator and owner of a CHP plant, will provide knowledge and data on industrial process design and operation and contribute with input primarily to WP5 and WP6.
