Chalmers has a long history. The original school, called “Chalmersska slöjdskolan”, was inaugurated in 1829 and funded by a donation from Willian Chalmers, the director of the Swedish East India company. In 1937, the school was formally given the status of a university, tasked with providing education in science and engineering and switched its name to “Chalmers Tekniska Högskola”. Since 1994, Chalmers University of Technology AB has been a foundation university, with the Chalmers University of Technology Foundation as owner and education provider. Education and research at Chalmers are conducted across its 13 departments, employing over 3,000 personnel, which includes PhD students, researchers, administrative staff, human resources professionals, etc.
At the Energy Technology Division at Chalmers, we conduct research and provide educational programs in the fields of energy technology and energy systems. Our ongoing projects encompass a wide range of topics aimed at improving efficiency and reducing the environmental impact of energy conversion and utilization across various sectors. Notably, approximately 35% of global Chemical-Looping Combustion (CLC) operations are carried out at the Energy Technology Division. Chalmers was the first institution to establish a fully operational CLC pilot in 2003 and has since reached several significant milestones in this area of research.
CHALMERS role in Bio-FlexCLC:
WP leader in WP2.
Chalmers University of Technology also leads tasks:
- 2.4. Adoption of 10 kW pilot plant with post combustion chamber and packings.
- 2.5. Investigation of Bio-FlexCLC in 10 kW pilot plant with various biomasses.
- 2.7. Investigation of solid samples from 10 kW pilot test and fate of ash species.
- And have a close collaboration with other tasks in this WP.
